see english belowBeim diesjährigen kleinen Festival in Soven wird sich alles um Liedermacher*innen und um das Liedermachen drehen. Sechs Musiker*innen aus drei Ländern werden sich eine Woche lang in Soven versammeln und gemeinsam und einzeln an neuen Stücken arbeiten. Die Umgebung des Wendlands - die Landschaft, die Architektur, die Geräusche, die Tiere - soll den Musiker*innen Inspiration für ihre Arbeit sein. Am Freitag den 18.8. und am Samstag den 19.8. werden am Abend, in der zum Konzertraum umfunktionierten alten Scheune des idyllischen Fachwerkhofes in Soven, jeweils drei Singer-Songwriter*innen ihre Programme im Rahmen des Suture Folk Festivals präsentieren. Dem Publikum wird so die Möglichkeit gegeben, alle Musiker*innen und ihr Werk zunächst einzeln kennen zu lernen. Als Höhepunkt und Abschluss des kleinen Festivals wird ein moderiertes Konzert stattfinden, bei dem alle Musiker*innen, ihre neu entstandenen `Soven Songs´ gemeinsam präsentieren. Neben dem britischen Songwriter Paul Armfield und dem italienischen Liedermacher Giulio Cantore, werden das Geschwisterpaar Max & Laura Braun sowie die Berliner Musikerinnen Carolina Lee und Judith Ahrends auftreten.

This year's small festival in Soven will be all about songwriters and songwriting. Six musicians from three countries will gather in the village of Soven for a week and work together and individually on new songs. The environment of the `Wendland´ - the landscape, the architecture, the sounds, the animals - will be the musicians' inspiration for their work. On Friday 18.8. and Saturday 19.8. in the evening the singer-songwriters will present their programs as part of the `Suture Folk Festival´ in the old barn of the beautiful farm in Soven, near Dannenberg. The audience is thus given the opportunity to first get to know all the musicians and their work individually. The highlight of the small festival will be a final moderated set on Saturday evening in which all musicians will present their newly created `Soven Songs´ together. Besides the British songwriter Paul Armfield and the Italian singer-songwriter Giulio Cantore, the siblings Max & Laura Braun and the Berlin based musicians Carolina Lee and Judith Ahrends will perform.

Sein letztes Album `Domestic´, das er vor dem Brexit und vor Covid geschrieben hat, enthält Songs, die heute unheimlich vorausschauend klingen und sich mit Begriffen wie Heimat, Isolation, Nationalismus und beschäftigen.

Giulio Cantore schreibt Lieder auf Italienisch und gilt als einer der interessantesten und originellsten Songwriter der alternativen italienischen Folkszene. Bei Live-Auftritten präsentiert der Künstler seine eigene Klangwelt, bestehend aus Liedern und Klängen, die er mit seinen selbstgebauten Instrumenten aus 15 Jahren Tätigkeit als Gitarrenbauer erzeugt.

Giulio Cantore continues the lineage of great Italian serenata singer/songwriters, but Giulio also spent much of his youth immersed in flamenco. His light and lyrical style has shades of both, a warm and loveable presence with surprising flashes of virtuosic guitar brilliance. He is considered one of the most interesting and original songwriters of the italian alternative music scene.

Das Geschwisterduo Max & Laura Braun schafft das Kunststück, ruhige Musik mit allerlei Aufregungen auszustatten. Ihre filigranen Kammer-Folk-Songs sind von einer fantastischen Schönheit, durchzogen von kühler Melancholie und feinen Wintermorgenstimmungen.
Minimalistische Gitarrenpatterns tragen Lauras weiche Stimme. Max singt zweite Stimmen. Mehr gibt es nicht und mehr braucht es auch nicht. Die zarten Lieder berühren, ohne sentimental zu sein.

Wer sich im Klangumfeld von Mazzy Star, Velvet Undergound und Karen Dalton bewegt, der braucht schon ein gehöriges Maß an Originalität, um sich von den Vorbildern abzuheben. Oder so eine fantastische Sängerin wie Nadja Carolina, die das unterkühlte, kontrollierte Timbre beherrscht und den Hörer tief in die Songs zieht. (Aachener Zeitung).

A tension is created that is sometimes reminiscent of the dark timbre of Karen Dalton or the dreamy simplicity of Mazzy Star.
