Isidora Edwards‘ work is based on the investigation about the sound possibilities of the cello, thought as a geography full of fissures and hidden retreats. The friction, the pressure, the harmonics, the blows, the intervention with objects in the strings , a search for melodies and tones, transforming the instrument into a poetic body that looks for a story in sound. Her interests are focused on searching in the spectrum of improvised music, in the fields of dance, movement, human voice and its philosophical relations with space, time and audience.
She has been part of diverse ensembles such as Ensamble Taller de Música Contemporánea U.C and the Goethe Institut Project “Ensemble Nuevo”. She has taken part in festivals of contemporary and experimental music such as Ars Nova Festival, Ravensburg; Ende Tymes Festival of Noise, New York; Acéfalo Festival, Valparaíso; Mopomoso Concert Series, Iklectik Ballistik, London; Multiversal, London; Danca a Deriva, Sao Paulo among others. She has played and collaborated with improvisers from Chile and overseas and recorded with a wide range of bands and projects of folk and popular music.
As a composer she has created the music for the dance and theater works “Paisajes” by choreographer Paula Sacur, “Un uno de a dos”, by choreographer Teresa Prieto and “Lanza, Corazón, Animales Mecánicos”, by Ensemble Theater Anmut. She is currently running a performance project with the dancer Paula Sacur, a duo with Filmmaker Rolando Opazo, and is working on her first disc of solo improvisations.
At the present she plays music for children with the epic Chilean band “Mazapán”, and is a cello teacher at children orchestras in Santiago. Isidora graduated in Music Performance with highest distinction from the P. Universidad Católica de Chile. She has attended improvisation workshops with improvisers Marcio Mattos and Eddie Prévost in London, U.K, and the “Women Jazz Improvisation Workshops” in Sydney Conservatorium/SIMA, Australia.
